Some of my photos were of my sister, Lily, who is an 11 year old. Lily’s favorite place is either Gun or Torch lake, where she can do all her favorite activities. She is always making up dances or putting on shows for our whole family, whether it’s by herself or with friends. I took my best photos of Lily behind the creek in our woods, where there is a board laid over a dry part of the creek. I had her dress up, but she not camera shy so getting her to pose was easy. I was able to take good pictures of her there because she was easily centered on the board and it wasn't very bright so I could focus on her face without any sunlight distracting the camera. While taking photos of Lily back in the woods, I was able to achieve good lighting, but I wasn’t quite sure how to make sure I was doing the rule of thirds correctly. Even though no one’s face is completely symmetrical, I would say I have more formal balance in Lily’s photos than informal balance, even though none of it was intentional. I was able to do selective focus for Lily’s photos because the background was nothing too elaborate, so the camera focused right on her face.
